My experience has been that when an iris "shows color," that is, when you can
definitely see what the color of the iris is from the petals coming out of the
bud, it is usually a week before it is in full bloom. Don't know if this helps
or not, because I am going by how things happened in the spring when the weather
was warm. Any cool weather delayed the process. I don't think you need to worry
about not seeing it if you are only going to be gone a week, but then I don't
know for sure what stage it is in. We would bring iris along to try to get them
to bloom for the show by bringing them inside and putting them in warm water, in
a very warm room or under a heat lamp (far enough away of course that you don't
burn it), and that would usually speed up the process by a couple of days;
however, this would certainly not work in your car!
Happy Thanksgiving!
