Dear Sterling, Sidney, etal:
Before you get too excited, W 94-17 hasn't bloomed in the fall before, as far
as we know. We had such a long growing season and warm fall that it might
have thought it was spring already. Also, the plants that bloomed at this
time were ones that had been lined out in late summer. Our experience is that
this happens sometimes.
W 94-17 is from a cross of our SAND RUN (MDB) X CRETICA (collected I. pumila).
It is 4 inches tall and blooms in early to mid-season MDB season. White
ground plicata lightly marked purple, light purple styles, white beards,
lightly ruffled. Although it is not pure pumila, its characteristics are
similar. It has two bloom in the terminal and no branching, but numerous
bloom stalks. The actual stems are about 1/4 inch and the blooms are quite
petite. Once we rescued it from the weeds, it has grown very well.
If you send me (privately) your mailing address, I will send an ancestry chart
and our 1998 Price List, and put you on the mailing list for 1999. MDBs are
introduced at $10.00.
Have a happy Turkey Day,
Dorothy Willott
