Hi All,
The weather in Castlemaine has been mild, and dry. Warm sunny days, but
not so hot as last year. The iris have continued to bloom and some are
reblooming. Still blooming in my garden are: HONKY TONK BLUES,
LOGANBERRY SQUEEZE, SUPREME SULTAN, SKATING PARTY, DUSKY CHALLENGER, NEW
SNOW & RED PLANET. LITTLE LOUIE is reblooming, and ENGLISH CHARM is
putting up a big fat bud. Pods are setting from the more recent crosses,
as the weather has been more favorable. The bloom season for bearded
iris has been nearly 3 months long - plenty of time to savour each cv.
I am currently putting in a new garden bed, roughly 8m X 1-2m, and will
spend the next few days finishing it off, and planting SDB's and TB's
that have been in pots for some time, along with hebe's, lavenders &
dianthus from cutting taken earlier in the year. The visual effect of
the iris leaves against the neat clumps of fine leafed small hebe's and
rounded lavender bushes covered with bloom, is quite striking.
Tommorow is 'Internet day' (or some such thing) in Australia, so I might
just celebrate it in my own contrary way, by staying OFF the net. Plenty
to do in the garden anyway, and much bushfire prevention work to be
done.
Cheers, Jan clark, in Australia
