I would also recommend potting the rhizomes, watering them keeping them warm
at night & outside in the daytime & in a few weeks checking the roots. If &
when the roots are growing out the bottom of the pot, plant them outside.
They should do fine. they will go dormant then but they will have roots for
next Spring and they won't pop up out of the ground when the weather thaws.
