One other possibility that's been suggested is pumila.
I've been digging through some old Journals and stumbled across a photo of
I. reichenbachii that bears some resemblance to the unknown. Color isn't
quite right for this one either, but the striping at the hafts looks
similar. (I'm not sure if this trait shows in arils.) The photo and a
limited mention are in the May 95 edition.
Does anyone know what the growing requirements for I. reichenbachii are?
Could it survive here?
