Really? I've never smelled that one. Don't think I'm seeing a lot of things 
that meet its description being grown in contexts where I'd expect the term 
to be used, but youmight well be right. I'm hearing about the 'grape iris' 
----which-we know about----- and the 'rootbeer iris'---- and I figured it had 
to be something pretty ubiqitous,  but 'rarer' than the former
