THE GENUS IRIS, by William Rickatson Dykes, p. 240, identifies this as among
the 'plants wrongly described as irises." He says the correct binomial is
Morea polystachya but cites no authority for the name. HORTUS THIRD, tells us
that as of the time of publication this plant, was Morea polystachya
(Thunb.)Ker-Gawl. It is an irid and one of the so called "butterfly irises,
most of which are tender. Native to South Africa. Perhaps someone with a copy
of CAPE BULBS or Clive Innes' book at hand will check therein to see what
more may be learned.

Hope this helps.
