Yes, 1/2" - 1" usually. However, like TBs, depending on the planting
area some readjust this as they grow. Some end up a bit deeper and
some end up with the top of the rhizome exposed. Also, some arilbred
increases have a tendency to 'stack'. By this some of the new increases
actually form under the mother rhizome instead of the side. JEWEL OF
OMAR, for instance, had increase on the sides, but many were also
showing on the bottomside of the rhizome. This makes for assorted
depths of the rhizomes as you can imagine. In JOs' case, this has been
going on for several years, so some rhizomes were near the surface,
some more than 2" deep. In the case of this cultivar, they all seem to
do equally well. And when you are dividing and planting, the depths at
which those little nubbins get buried varies accordingly. Not much one
can do about it in such a case.
