Chuckle - what a riot <g>! Guess that one wasn't ready to be dormant.

All the comments on acclimatizing Oz imports are really interesting. I
admit I hadn't really thought about the shock to these poor plants,
considering, as Betty sez, the shock of coming here from the west coast
of the US is bad enough. The need for dormancy/drying for a month
surprised me. I was thinking that if these arrive here in April, which
I think would be early fall in Oz (?), they would be ready for their
fall growth. Then they would get summer dormancy here when they were
'expecting' winter dormancy. And then maybe bloom in the fall?

Any physiologists out there care to speculate on what is going on with
these plants & why it's hard for them to get themselves adjusted to
being upside down?

I also appreciate the long note about soil and climate at Tempo Two that
someone posted several days ago (already forgot who it was, but
thanks!), and wonder how much of the acclimatization has to do with
changes in soil texture & pH).

I received a nice note from Barry Blyth - he sez that they breed
primarily for early bloom because they don't have late frosts & have
problems with later bloomers being fried by the heat. No wonder our
part of the country has trouble growing his interesting plants.

I really appreciate all the comments on success and failure with these
imports. My 'plan' was to put my share of the order into the ground
under Reemay on arrival, adding sand and ground limestone, and see what
happens. Sounds like that may not be such a great idea.
