My seedlings are still potted, and will probably have to stay that way this
winter. Some of you may recall I harvested about 2,250 seeds from my
various bearded & beardless irises last year. Well I betcha at least 800
of those are growing strong... and probably more will come up next spring.
I just looked at my SIGNA seeds and found that my Louisianas are finally
starting to germinate now that the weather has cooled off. I am
particularly excited because my "Extreme S. Fla. species" of LA are
germinating. Did anyone else get these? I'd love to compare notes. Sam
Norris said they were hardy for him last winter in Zone 6, so I hope they
perform well for me too.
And it doesn't count as a seedling, but my small clump of I. odaesanensis
that I got from Joe Pye Weeds this spring has doubled in size. I am
excited about seeing it bloom next season. Is anyone else growing this?
I'd love to compare notes on this one too. I have mine in a bark-mulched
bed against the house that receives sun dappled light all day through some
mature pines & maples.
Oh, and my order from John Scheepers arrived today... which included
several varieties of Dutch Irises and also 5 "bulbs" of Iris bucharica.
You folks convinced me to try something new so I hope they like it here.
