RE: Re: CULT - Genetic Engineering

Walter,

You seem to have two things mixed up here. First, on the genetic engineered
corn the problem is that it has not been studied enough to say it is safe
for human consumption. The fear is an allergic reaction. The second is
that the FDA wants poultry producers to stop using two antibiotics for fear
that they are creating a stronger strain of the various bacteria they are
supposed to eliminate, ones that can be passed along to humans, and that
stronger drugs will be needed to cure humans should this happen. {lease
note that in the former there is a fear of allergic reaction and in the
later there is a fear of bacterial contamination, neither of which are
related.

For fear of starting a way off topic discussion, I would state that I am
neither for nor against genetic engineering. Most of the stuff they are
trying to do today with it is to create, or recreate the genes that have
been lost by selective breeding for other characteristics.

One news report stated that there was fear of transmission of
some sort of virus to human beings from food animals that ate this
particular corn. I really don't know, but there seems to be some
risk when affected corn products are pulled from the grocers'
shelves.
