Sometimes I think Dykes medals are given on the criteria of the flower's beauty without consideration of how the plant grows. Edith Wolford bloomed out for me two years ago, and I won't replace it. Rick Ernst's Thrillseeker has an almost identical flower and has no problems growing here in the heat. Celebration Song is one of the most beautiful irises ever, I think, but it is subject of rhizome rot and bloom out. Mesmerizer is lovely also, but its rhizomes have certainly dwindled in my garden. Clarence had a rebloom stalk on it a couple of weeks ago, but I had to dig the clump to save it from the rot. I'm glad I'm not a judge having to choose from these.

Pictures at an Exhibition?
Judges knowing the lovely lady for whom the iris is named?
The so-called West Coast 'bloc' vote? (Urban Legend)
