Too late?

While doing some major clean up in the gardens this weekend, I came
across two clumps of Intermediate Bearded Iris that had been hidden by
bigger plants. They are pretty overgrown and crowded. Is it too late
to lift and separate (lol - not like playtex)??
I'm in Zone 5 - SE Wisconsin, with an average first frost date of
October 22.
