Jim,
Here in hot Texas, AMERICAN SWEETHEART has the strongest purple based
foliage of the many I grow. Mike Sutton just posted a photo on Iris-Photo.
In spring, strong purple goes nearly half way up the fan. It fades in the
heat, but maybe it would last longer in your cooler climate.
