    I was glad to hear you were able to keep the iris in a pot and 
alive and blooming. I am trying to grow some iris in pots because I 
can control the sunlight and drainage better, but I keep most outside 
in the ground. I would definitely say that with 8 or 9 fans it could 
be divided, but I cannot tell you when is the right time for your 
climate. I live in NJ. Normally the time to divide is after bloom is 
finished, but before they go dormant for the winter. They usually put 
on a growth spurt in the summer before they start dying down in the 
fall.

PS With only one lonely iris, you definitely have to get some more!
