GERALD DARBY is a hybrid of I. versicolor and I. virginica, botanically
known as I. xrobusta. It is a very attractive plant with purple-based
foliage in the spring, and blue-violet flowers on nearly black stalks. GD
is fertile with both its parents and is self-compatible. I have a nice
seedling from GD X virginica alba that has white flowers veined light blue.
The stems are not as dark but the pb foliage is still prominent.
