Thanks for posting this John - I had misunderstood the use of sulfur as
a treatment for rot.  I thought it was added to ensure adequate sulphur
nutrition, not at high doses to knock out bacteria.

We have plenty of available sulfur here from air pollution deposition &
natural sources, but direct application of powdered gypsum would be
different.
