RE: Re: HYB: finding pedigrees

Folks,

I need to support John on this. While it is obvious that everyone on
iris-talk has embraced the electronic age, the majority of the AIS
membership has not. The priority for the moment is for paper copies. In
the near future, that will likely shift and we (led by John) are getting
ready for it. And getting paper moved into digital is no mean feat. The
project was started by Howard Hughes years ago and has accelerated since
John took it over. John has made significant progress.

That said, it doesn't mean you can't keep the pressure up. Just recognize
that work is being done and it's being done in everyone's
'spare time'. I'm sure John could use some support and pats on the back for
getting it this far. I think that we are only a year or two away from a CD.

At the moment yes and no. Yes before you can get you own copy, and no
because you can have access to the online version (for a fee) and all
the facilities of the search engine (see previous post)

I don't believe the AIS is trapped in a box. Geeks are still a minority
within the membership (by a long shot) the same I beleive is true for
the majority of irisarians.

Because we are still in the process of getting all the previous
registrations into electronic form. As to the R&I's we need to
transition from an older system to one that can produce an electronic
copy in a form that does not require a 5" floppy as an intermediary
media. And no, it is not as easy as you might think.
