That's what I have been thinking. It would be impossible to obtain pictures
of every one of the many thousands of irises that have been introduced. Many
were introduced to please family members and were never actually distributed
to the public. Others no longer exist. As an introducer of 296 iris
varieties, I have trouble obtaining accurate pictures of many of our irises.
The worst is trying to get blues on film. We have recently purchased a
digital camera, but are having trouble getting used to using it. Don't know
if we will have any better luck on colors.
Also, all this talk about all the fancy programs that can be used for
checklists on line and on CDs, really bothers me. Even though I have used
computers for some time, I have never felt the need to buy every new,
expensive program out there. If you make it too complicated, you will be
shutting out a lot of us.
I have purchased every printed checklist in hard copy book form and purchase
every yearly edition of the R&I. This is something that can be handed down
and will not be at the mercy of ever changing computer software.
