Re: CULT: and HYB: various iris types

BLACK HILLS (I don't know this one at all, have no knowledge of it) not to be confused with BLACK HILLS GOLD (one of Opal Brown's, and a favorite of mine) which lives up to its name, tends, like most of that hybridizer's introductions, to bloom rather late. The late Larry Harder once told me that her things are mostly among the later bloomers because she usually did the bulk of her hybridizing after she returned home from the national conventions. Up here in the zone 4 country I would think a hybridizer would be interested in late bloomers, but maybe not if one wanted to breed rebloomers. Not interested in hybridizing myself, so I have not thought much about that angle. For several reasons, I'd rather enjoy the iris that others have enjoyed bringing to the marketplace. That way we're both happy.
