Re: Re: TB: southern neglectas

Looking for input on neglectas taht perform well in zones 8, 9 or 10,
in particular, how the following do in those zones:

OVERNIGHT SENSATION
BALCH SPRINGS
PROUD TRADITION
CEE CEE
NORTHWEST PROGRESS
ROYAL CRUSADER

Janet Natale
zone 8 of SC

Janet: most of the Schreiner neglectas are weak growers in 9b southern California. I hypothesize that they need a freeze to effectively trigger increase. I have grown Overnight Sensation and Proud Tradition both; last year's second attempts are doing slightly better with fewer summer days over 95 degrees than at my old home. Northwest progress is similar. Royal Crusader is a better grower, though not always a consistent bloomer. Cee Cee and Best Bet are almost identical in appearance and habits; both bloom regularly (even if not ready to produce a good stalk) and can bloom out due to poor increase. Mariposa Skies has been similar for me, but more rot-prone. Proud Tradition has the prettiest blue color of the lot. LOUISA'S SONG is a lavender/purple rather than blue neglecta, but a good strong grower with awesome flowers and stalks. I have not been impressed so far with Romantic Evening and its offspring, typically shorter and weaker growers. Skylark's Song has grown surprisingly well for me, though the flowers and stalks are a bit smaller.
