Thanks, Jeff.  I knew you'd be able to offer the clarification I wanted.  
I completely overlooked the explanations on p. 17 and was looking only at 
those on the first page inside the front cover.

Your interpretations make sense to me, but whose judgement was used to 
determine "superseded" varieties?
