Re: HYB: CULT: rot free in California

Thanks John.  I will read up on these and check them out as they get
into reasonable price range.  The only one of these I have tried is
INNOCENT STAR, and it does indeed grow very well for me.  No rot that I
remember noticing, or else it must rapidly outgrow it, but stalks are
stunted by my weather (late spring freezes during rapid growth) &
sometimes frozen out completely.  I've tried to make crosses with it,
but it has not shown any viability of pod or pollen - probably too badly
stressed, even in years it manages to bloom.

Hmm.. I think at least one of those (PERSIAN BERRY) is probably old
enough to be affordable.

<Linda:  For me, the most prolific and trouble-free "garden plants" (not
selected for beauty) are Pagan Pink, Stingray (reblooms constantly),
Dawning, Stage Lights, Innocent Star, Epicenter, Progressive Attitude,
Touch of Mahogany, and Persian Berry.  I am having great luck with
Louisa's Song, but it doesn't increase as fast as those others.  Society
Page is unusually rot-resistant for a pink; it is a very pale true

I am SO disilllusioned to learn that irises rot in "iris heaven" - no
wonder so many die here.....if it "occasionally" rots there, surely it
would have chronic rot problems here.

Thanks again John - really appreciate this information.  So hard to find
the modern 'flags', tho I know there are quite a few.
