OT-CHAT: moving to Tennessee

<Linda, I wonder if you realize that tennessee is the hot new state to
move to Am losing friends fast.>

Are any of these friends iris growers? Where in Tennessee are they
moving? Don't they realize that if they stay where they are a few
years, global warming will bring our climate to them? We will be more
like Donald Eaves' version of Texas at the rate things are changing.

< ..Do you all have cellers? >

Good to see that even tho you are a Yankee, you understand the correct
usage of you all <g>! (plural of you). We call them basements around
here and usually turn them into dens, spare bedrooms, and recreation
rooms. Like many older rural homes, my ancient wreck of a farmhouse
was built with a very low crawl space over dirt. Most modern
construction either builds on a concrete slab or a full basement, but
some older houses may have cellars or unfinished basements or bigger
crawl spaces that could double as a cellar. I don't know.

<The climate is warmer, less wood to bring in to burn in the winter.>

Used to be, nearly everybody used wood for at least supplemental heat,
but our climate is ideal for heat pumps, so that's what we've all
switched to.

<Well the heads up is that most New Englanders still love to garden so
they
are coming your way and will have no clue about gardening in heat or
drought.>

The biggest trouble with our heat is the humidity and the biggest
problem from drought is how erratic it is - this year, we went from
hardly any rain for months to a week with 10 inches. Yes, they will be
in for a shock.
