Susan:  Here's my two cents!  I'm just north of Detroit - Zone 6a, 
and I've done nothing to protect my reblooming iris...yet.  Someone 
on the list Rosalee, I think, said that iris are hardy to about 27 
degrees f.  When the temp dips to 28 for more than a day or two (hard 
freeze) I'll cut my stalks and bring them in.  Of course, I'm sure it 
wouldn't hurt to carefully cover your buds/flowers with a wool sock 
(as suggested) or drape a sheet, etc. over tomato stakes, etc. 
surrounding the plant/plants.
