I just returned from the garden I had up North in zone 7 with rhizomes that have been up there for one year. Here is my ratings on the ones that survived the gophers, rabbits, drought during summer, winds, stray cows, and tumbleweeds - out of 285 irises planted (96 varieties).
1. Nothing
2. Eagle Control, Autumn Thunder, Amethyst Winter, Awesome Blossom, Shoot The Moon, Sudden Impact.
3. Mesmerizer, Free Space, Penny Lane, Spirit World.
4. Navy Blues, Stairway To Heaven, Ruffled Goddess, Magical Encounter, Dusky Challenger,
5. those that died.

Hello, Iris Talkers,
I have just finished cleaning and weeding a bed of irises I planted last
year at the edge of my lawn. This area gets flood irrigation. Though I
tried to raise the bed a couple of inches and used other measures to
keep water from standing on the irises for half a day, they still stand
in warm water two to three hours every other week through our
exceedingly hot summer. Despite this, I had only one case of rot, Lady
Mary Elizabeth. I treated it with antibacterial soap. She recovered
and managed to earn a 1 with nine healthy increases. I lost one:
Lenten Prayer dwindled and died. Beautiful as it was, it won't be
replaced.
I noted the growth patterns as I worked and graded them from 1 to 5. 1
being a super grower, 2 above average, 3 average, 4 below average but
doing ok, 5 just holding on.
