Storing pollen

Linda -- Don Spoon, of Winterberry Gardens, uses a method of storing pollen
that is simplicity itself. He wraps the anther in a couple of folds of
kitchen plastic wrap and puts it in the freezer until the following year, then
pulls it out and uses it. It thaws in just a few minutes.

My cache of pollen so preserved was probably zapped by Hurricane Isabel
because I had stored it in the freezer compartment of a refrigerator, which
thawed during 3 days without power. Had I stored it in the depths of my chest
feezer, it would not have thawed. I just got some pollen from Don's reblooming
MDB Royal Maroon yesterday, and it's in a tiny plastic bag in the freezer as I
write this.
