CULT:HYB: labeling crosses

I know this is out of season, but I was just rummaging around in my office
this week and found my labels... It's only slightly different from what some
of you have already said you do.

I have a baggie full of mini blinds cut up with holes punched in them. Each
piece has a number and a twist tie. When I make a cross I put the numbered
label around the ovary, and list the cross by the number on a seperate piece
of paper. That way I can reuse the same labels year after year and not have
to worry about erasing them at all.

Toying with the idea of making a list of the crosses that I want to make and
assigning a number to the cross before bloom season. Then I wouldn't have
to carry a second piece of paper to the garden that was just a list of
intended crosses. And it might eliminate the problem of trying to keep
track of whether or not I have already attempted a particular cross already
that year...

Anybody have any tools or tactics for getting the planned crosses from the
notebook to pod with the fewest headaches. Any ideas how to get a cluster
of crosses, say 'all the blue plicatas X all the greenish whites' into a
format that could actually be useful in the garden?
