Neil, or anybody who has the time & energy to chip away at explaining
heredity of yellow pigments/patterns:
On iris-photos, Margie V in Arizona posted a couple of photos of two
sibling seedlings from WORLD PREMIER (amoena) X ECSTATIC ECHO (red
ragged edged fall spot or wash on white or maybe pale lavender ground).
One seedling is an amoena, white or maybe cream standards, various
anthocyanin pigments on the falls. The other is a light yellow self.
Neither WORLD PREMIER nor ECSTATIC ECHO is yellow, unless the fall
<spot> on ECSTATIC ECHO contains yellow. Margie's photo of EE does show
yellow in the throat & hafts of the flower
So where does that yellow self come from? Does this mean that both
parents have the same yellow pigment and a recessive inhibitor of that
yellow? Is the yellow in the throat and hafts of EE probably/possibly
an indication of partial inhibition of yellow in EE? I don't know if
there is any yellow in WORLD PREMIER.
Guess I should go chart pedigrees of the parents before asking...
