Hello Barbara,
I think nematodes do get into iris. I will go further and say that what I
suspect is nematode damage here results in swollen nodules on the roots,
lack of vigor, dwindling clumps, susceptability to 'scorch'. I haven't
noticed any increased susceptibility to rot, but I have noticed that what I
have believed to be nematode signatures on the root system occur in beds
that have been improved in tilthe over the natural hard red clay. The clay
has it's own problems, but signs of nematodes invading to the point of
affecting iris growth does not seem to be one of them.
I'm not sure, but I think there is information on nematodes and iris in the
archives. I haven't made a search to be sure but I seem to recall some
discussions. They may have been more about beneficial nematodes, though.
Have you searched there for information?
