Re:TB: Need help making an identification

From your original description I thought it sounded like WILD WINGS. After
looking at the photo on Ebay, I doubt it is WILD WINGS. It doesn't look like
ROMANTIC EVENING as it blooms here either....but irises vary remarkably
depending on how they're grown, the weather and countless other variables. In
addition, photographs can do remarkable thinks to iris colors, shifting values
and so on. I've had violet irises photograph blue, violet irises photograph
red-red-purple and so on.

In any event, the one shown on Ebay appears to be something in the same
general group of those two mentioned.

Dana's suggestion is a good one. I'd follow her advice if I were buying.

As it is, I stick pretty close to a few vendors and introducers I know and
trust and order from year after year. There's an awful lot of mis-identified
irises circulating in places like Ebay--but there's good ones too. Just to be
safe, a catalog or list from a known advertiser who knows their irises is the
best bet.

Why don't you try Dana herself? She and Vernon Brown have a commercial garden
(Malevil) and I would trust them to send out good things, correctly identified
and in good shape. They'll also stand behind what they sell. You'll find
them, I suspect, in the list on the AIS website toward which she pointed you.
