It seems my 10/13 Bulletin arrival was right in the pace of things
generally. Thank you, all of you for your comments.
Tall Talk arrived the day before, so the to-read pile gets even deeper.
I, too, enjoyed the Bulletin (as much as I've gotten to read yet). The
three-way conversation with Joe Ghio and Keith Keppel is my treat for
today. I've known them since at least 1960 and have enjoyed watching
them float to the very top of the hybridizing adventure with great
delight. Dedication and persistence--let alone continuity--really pays.
That says nothing of the backaches, sweat and hard choices to select out
the best of the best from seedlings where the majority are far superior
to what most of the rest of us grow.
The photos were marvelous. Rita--I love cats too, and it is my regret
that Dorothy is violently allergic to them. So I am on the lookout for
a good stuffed one. She came home from Milwaukee this summer with a
buff colored bear--quite cuddly and soft, with the most pathetic
expression on its face. It melts the heart! A few times when I have
had trouble sleeping I've tucked it under my arm and snuggled, hoping to
cheer up the poor thing. Since I have to sleep inclined I live in a
recliner, and the nameless stuffed bear takes me back to my first
childhood (I seem to be well into my second).
The convention articles fill the Bulletin with meaty, enjoyable
participation in the convention. I do wish I could join in! Getting to
know you all through Iris-talk and e-mails has been part of my
life-line, then seeing photos gives me an even better sense of who you
are. The photographers--and especially Bruce Filardi--deserve a very
large round of applause. They add a further dimension to those of Char
Holte which I've enjoyed greatly. I commend her also for her very
diligent work.
