Colleen, I understand what you are saying. Although, the value of
rebloomers is mainly in the garden, we definitely want to encourage the more modern
form. TR seems to lure me in from a distance, and I do admire it's good
qualities. But the tucking and poor substance bother me.
I have two blooms on my counter as I write. TR & MATRIX. Examining blooms
alone, TR is the better of the two. More appealing to my eye. The quality
may change as the day progresses and substance comes into play more. MATRIX
was new in the garden last year and there was no spring bloom. One stalk that
got frozen in my (very late) fall season last year. From what I've seen in
pictures and read, I'd say it IS MATRIX. Somehow I wasn't quite expecting
the grayed (yellow) standards. I'm not seeing any cinnamon veins. But soils
differ.
What irises would you recommend? What is breeding quality rebloom in
Australia?
Last year, I planted the Innerst trio, LUNAR WHITEWASH, OVER AND OVER, AND
AGAIN AND AGAIN. OAO was misnamed and is now replaced. I trust the grower
and I'm sure I now have the correct one . . . but at least one year late. AAA
I've described in another post. LW rotted some but pulled out of it and is
putting up a third rebloom stalk. Four stalks total for the year on a rhizome
planted last year. Not shabby. Beautiful form but low bud count in off
season.
