Looks like most on the list are duplicates.
I don't have many tetraploid TB variegatas, but the ones I have seem to
all do well. The ones I can think of off hand are mostly duplicates of
those listed, and mostly old. 'Accent' and 'Frank Adams' are both top
line healthy performers. 'Rameses' is not a blast of color like most
variegatas, but it performs wonderfully, and you can't kill it with much
short of a nuclear blast.
I have lots of diploid variegatas, mostly MTB's or so-called IB's derived
from mostly I. pallida and I. variegata. Most of them are marginal for
me, suffering and rot prone in the summer heat. I can't think of a one of
those that is "healthiest" here, but there are a few that do moderately
well (still living, healthy, but not much new growth, and suffer in
summer), such as 'Gajus', 'Honorabile', and all the sports of
'Honorabile'.
Of newer variegatas, I'll have to look up the names for most - I'm drawing
a blank, but I've had only a few that have done really well, but those few
are very healthy indeed. One comes to mind that is a real winner for me
is 'Circus World'. It handles the dry heat and wind, grows like crazy,
flowers well, and stands tall. I like the flower a lot too, but it's
still perhaps just a tad old-fashioned looking and the flower is perhaps a
bit small for the height.
So far 'Torchlight Parade' has done OK, and it sent up one stalk this
year, but it seems that it might suffer a bit in the heat too. It's
growth has been pretty equivalent to 'Wabash' so far, and like that one it
may turn out to be a real winner after a few more seasons ('Wabash' has to
have just the right spot to do well here, but then it grows and flowers
like crazy). 'Torchlight Parade' is one of my favorites now (but that
might be partly because Griff gave it to me - so I'm biased); in addition
to the velvety-looking falls, it has the "old" look that I like so much,
even though it isn't very old.
I have several variegata SDB's, don't remember the name of a single one,
but they all do quite well for me. They don't grow fast, and they are
short, but that's because I hardly ever water them (they are planted out
in the native grassland with the cacti and yuccas).
