Thank you Chuck!
It will keep me busy a while making sure I can both understand and
remember all of that while out dreaming amongst the blooms next spring.
But I think you answered all my questions, including some I didn't know
I had <vbg>
Nice to think that rose-pink might be anthocyanin pink. It had a lot of
color saturation when it first opened.
I went ahead and built double layer tents of plant bed covers over the
unbloomed seedlings - my curiosity about pigments in that one was enough
to motivate me.
As for IMMORTALITY - I may bloom enough of various crosses to have some
idea of frequency of t's. But results will be skewed if survivability
here is linked to pigments...
For what it's worth, of 11 surviving seedlings from ((reblooming amoena
sdlng (IMM x CELEBRATION SONG)) X (muddy yellow sdlng: (PINK FORMAL x
?)), the first to bloom was pure pink. Two or three others from that
cross are just starting to make stalks - hopefully I can nurse them
along enough to see what color they are before cold weather kills them.
Some non-sequitors:
PINAFORE PINK is in pedigrees of some of the recent Schreiner oranges
(AVALON SUNSET), although I have no idea what part of PP contributes to
the final product. PP also makes a lot of nice fluffy fertile pollen
here. I've had it for decades - a good survivor that blooms just about
every year. <But> it's one of those that barely increases enough to
persist.
