HYB: Long Question about Rebloom

I just posted a picture on Iris-Photos of a seedling
of mine that is [re]blooming right now.
It's Iris cengialtii X CLOWN PANTS. I guess I don't
have a specific question, but am just wondering if any
of you more experienced hybridizers [for rebloom]
could shed any light on what I'm observing.
Although my goal is to breed for reblooming diploids
(MTB or otherwise), I hadn't expected any rebloom when
I made the cross that produced CLOWN PANTS (Iris
variegata X suaveolens var. mellita). The variegata
clone that I used, is supposed to rebloom somewhere
but never did for me; and suaveolens is a
once-bloomer. So I had figured on a once-blooming F1;
and that with some luck maybe I'd get some rebloom in
the F2. Well, CLOWN PANTS surprised me in its maiden
year, by sending up additional stalks a few weeks
after the main flush was over. Someone (somewhere that
I've read) calls this "repeat" to distinguish it from
the typical fall "rebloom". CLOWN PANTS has repeated
this way about half of the years that I've grown it.
It's done this for Greg McCullough of Iris City
Gardens (who introduced it this year) and also for
Linda Mann "in the vale".
So, then crossing CLOWN PANTS with Iris cengialtii
(which doesn't repeat or rebloom); I once again,
expected no rebloom or repeat. "Isn't rebloom supposed
to be recessive?" But here I am, with one of these
seedlings blooming again, in October. I'm not
complaining -- I just don't understand what's going on
here. And to further confuse me, I've got a whole
patch of seedlings from KEIRITH X CLOWN PANTS (KEIRITH
is supposed to rebloom somewhere on the west coast).
They were not big enough to bloom this spring, but
sure look big enough now. So I'd think if any of these
were going to be rebloomers, I'd see some action there
now; and I'm not seeing any stalks at all.
So... would any of you experienced rebloom hybridizers
be able to clear some of the fog for me???
I'm gonna keep on pluggin' away regardless of knowing
what to expect.
Thanks, Tom
