Thanks, Pat -- And besides the one that smelled good, did the others have fragrance, whether good or bad? -- Griff

It's funny that your E-mail came when I had just returned from our October iris meeting. The program was on reblooming irises. I mentioned that one of the irises that I brought was fragrant, but I hadn't figured out which one had scented my car. So, several of us went along the line sniffing the irises to see which one it was. The only iris there with a nice scent was one of the four that I brought, Daughter of Stars. Apparently, most of the rebloomers don't smell good when grown here in Dallas. Pat in Dallasit's funny that "J. Griffin Crump" <jgcrump@cox.net> wrote: Last weekend's Region 4 regional convention at Blacksburg, VA, was anexcellent event, the more remarkable because it was organized by Don Rude in an area of southwest Virginia that has no local society. Also remarkable was a phenomenon observed at the show by myself and several other hybridizers and growers, namely, that every single iris in the show was fragrant. None had afragrance that was hard to detect, and many had strong fragrance. Yesterday, we observed the same phenomenon at the Chesapeake and Potomac Reblooming Show in northern Virginia. Again, all of the fragrances were easily detectable. This contrasts, in our experience, with spring shows, which typically includeat least several cultivars that have no discernable fragrance. So, we are wondering if fragrance goes with rebloom. If any of you have made the same observation, or if there are still somereblooming shows pending out there, we'd like for you to be nosy and let usknow what you sniff out. -- Griff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE IRIS
