I'm on the path to including something like Among Friends in the category "Exciting". Not because I brought it to the attention of the group, but because it is now outside the pack "never has re-bloomed" or per RIS Checklist language "Unrecognized" (once I file my report anyway). Call me weird, I am getting more excitement to see the not thought of as reliable get another chalk mark. "Reliable" is way overrated in my book. A challenge to the negative. I will always have Immortality and Feed Back in my garden because they are classics. But certainty can be a bit boring, no? You can market "uncertain but maybe" as a challenge to the positive. I pay good money for it.
Breed on my brave daubers! Meanwhile, the least the rest of us can do is to faithfully report our remontants and "exciting" irises.

Folks, lets have a little reality here. We don't have a large number reliable reblooming irises. Things that are reliable in Italy, are not necessarily reliable in Scottsville KY. Thins that are reliable in California are not reliable in KY. Things that are reliable in Linda's back yard do not rebloom in my back yard. Can we please find a way to encourach and reward those that breed for rebloomers in all geological areas? We can throw all types of caution and cantankerous intervention in the mix, but do we really want to? <<For my highly variable climates, in order to say for sure that an iris is a reliable rebloomer here, I would want to grow it for 3 or 4 yrs after first bloomstalk, without dividing. I wouldn't know what to call it if it rebloomed <one> of those years. If I grew it 10 yrs and it rebloomed twice, I still wouldn't know.>> Betty Wilkerson Zone 6 KY autmirislvr@aol.com -----Original Message----- From: Linda Mann <101l@rewrite.hort.net> To: iris <iris@hort.net> Sent: Tue, Sep 30, 2014 12:36 pm Subject: Re: [iris] Among Friends rebloom Good question, Chuck. & not one I'd try to answer, either for genetics or for garden information. For my highly variable climates, in order to say for sure that an iris is a reliable rebloomer here, I would want to grow it for 3 or 4 yrs after first bloomstalk, without dividing. I wouldn't know what to call it if it rebloomed <one> of those years. If I grew it 10 yrs and it rebloomed twice, I still wouldn't know. One of the values of the rebloom checklist is that even tho you can't tell how often it reblooms in one place, if it's reported for a lot of states/countries USDA zones, they it's probably safe to call it a real rebloomer. So a single time reblooming for Shaub, with no obvious rebloom genetics, may not mean much, but if half a dozen people report rebloom, even if it's sporadic, maybe it becomes useful information. I'll have to trust it's to label since I am not notfamiliarwith the full field of MTBs. Will post a pic to the photoslistserve in afew days. It has been a good year for me rebloom wise sowe'll see how itdoes next year.So we can avoid any false double reports, FYI I am a RISmember so I'llbe reporting it to Region 4 when they ask for submittals. Itwill beunder Shaub Dunkley, Candler NC. (Z6b) Another surpriser on theway! Western Hills (per source) (1 yo clump)has three stalks budding out.RIS '12 shows only VA z6 reporting it sofar. I really expected it to bevery sporadic and to perhaps never seeit rebloom for me. BTW folks, I'minto the historic remontants and carriers.
