TIP OF THE WEEK: the "nomail" option

Hi folks! I thought it might be a good idea to offer a "tip" about
the listserver, email, web, or what-have-you each week. Let me know
if you find this interesting or useful.

Today's tip is the "nomail" option. If you're too busy to read Iris-L
mail for awhile, or are going to be gone on vacation, you do not need
to unsubscribe and rejoin the list later. You can tell the listserver
to temporarily stop sending mail.

Send email to LISTSERV@RT66.COM

In the body of the message, type only

SET IRIS-L MAIL NOMAIL

When you're ready to start getting the messages again, send mail
to LISTSERV@RT66.COM but this time with the message

SET IRIS-L MAIL ACK

or

SET IRIS-L MAIL DIGEST

depending on whether you prefer individual messages or digests.

Although this is about the same amount of trouble as unsubscribing
and resubscribing, it has the advantage that your name stays on
the official rolls--others can still find you with a REVIEW command,
and you won't be bothered with a new welcome message and new password
when you come back.

Enjoy the list!

Cheers, Tom.
