CULT: yet another iris update

From: dkramb@tso.cin.ix.net (Dennis Kramb)

I made a truly amazing discover in my garden today.

Earlier this weekend I reported autumn bloomstalks on AUTUMN BUGLER and
AUTUMN ORANGELITE. These are both well established plants. In my new iris
bed, LOW HO SILVER is throwing up a bloomstalk. I just planted this 8
weeks ago after receiving it via mail order. Amazing! Has this happened
to anyone else before?

While pruning dead leaves off all my irises, I sadly discovered that STARS
OVER CHICAGO was 90% rotten. It is also only 8 weeks old. I'm hoping that
the two outermost increases will survive. I cut and scraped all the rot
out leaving virtually no rhizome for the increases to feed from. (This is
the same thing that happened with ELECTRIQUE last month, but the rot was
not so advanced.)

In spring I planted some I. graminea and I. lactea in pots. In summer they
germinated. A month ago they were doing fine. After returning from
vacation I found them all dead. Why would this happen? Supposedly there
was plenty of rain while I was gone, and there was no frost. Any ideas?
