Re: OT: Tuesday Night blues

From: DWiris@aol.com

Hi,

I,m another night owl. I usually get online after 11 p.m. when all the sci-fi
shows are over on TV. Yes, I'm another trekkie! I'll have to pay closer
attention to names that might fit some of our irises.  I don't watch sitcoms;
they all seem alike and I hate canned laughter. I would rather laugh when I
feel like it, not when someone says I should. On Tuesday evenings I'm not
watching TV; I'm going to tax classes to prepare for the next tax return
preparation season.

We don't have many rebloomers. Occassionally, Queen Dorothy or Immortality
will bloom in late October as does our SDB Silk and Velvet. However, a couple
of years ago we got a piece of Violet Returns very cheaply at a local auction
and have been surprised at all the bloom. This year it sent up bloom stalks
through August and September and is still going in October.

Threatening non-blooming irises does seem to work. Once upon a time we had
the IB June Prom which wouldn't do much of anything for several years. Then
we got another piece and both bloomed the next year. It works with pear
trees, also. My husband got mad at a six-year old tree that hadn't had any
fruit. He told it that it would be cut down the next year, if it didn't
produce. The next year it had 6 or 7 pears and has increased the number each
year since then.

It appears there are quite a few iris murderers on iris-talk. My husband and
I are very guilty of this, mostly from neglect. The worst losses are
seedlings that we were considering for introduction or irises that we have
introduced and are trying to keep stock of. We have also killed Batik and
Honky Tonk Blues.

Well, that puts in my comments on several subjects I've been reading about
while trying to catch up on the iris-talk mail.
