Hi Tom..... I'm not Jan Clark but I grow lots of I. ensata (Japanese Iris) and
I'd be happy to answer your questions.
Very generally speaking, JI's need very moist conditions and acidy soil.
After that, you just drop them into the ground and get out of the way! (:
