Though I have some experience with irises, a member of AIS since 1944, I
am brand new to computers, the people who wrote the "Dummy," books had
me in mind. With guidance from My good friend Vicki Craig, I have
progresesprogressed this far and after lurking for a week on a rainy
SaturdSaturday ay morning I decided to jump in.
When lurking last week I made one of my too often errors when I deleted
a message I wanted to reply to so perhaps the writer will see this and
respond. It came through HIPSourse@aol.com, and it pertained to a great
old pink TB One Desire. I was in George Shoop's garden when, as a
seedling, One Desire opened it's first flower. George began to
hybridize a year after seeing my first TB seedlings in bloom, he lived
across town from me. Eventually, when the Dwarf and Median Societies
came along I found my real interest and have continued there. George
continued with talls contributing some wonderful new colors and color
combinations, a major contribution to the iris world, Latin Lover and
Ringo a couple for his earlier ones. KeithKeppelKeith Keppel Joe Ghio
and I were among those who selected seedling s from his last crop of
them, Keith is introducing those chosen, some very nice things .
I printed the message about One Desire and took it over to Roberta, his
wife. She was thrilled and sends her thanks to the person who wrote it
Now I am wondering if from someone I can get a rhyzome for Roberta's
garden?
I live in Portland, Oregon a fairly mild climate, 40 degree average
winter temperature though we do have freezes and we are told El Nina
will bring heavy rain, flooding and possibly snow and ice.
we have snow once in a while. A wonderful climate for irises as witness
the large number of hybridizers and commercial gardens here including
now,Paul Black ,who now is a resident of the area.
My best, Bennett
