I don't think there is a known cause and the occurrence is sporadic - a clumpt
here or part of a clump ten feet away. Some years scorch is bad;
other years it is non-existent. I don't think it is contagious or
carried or spread by insects since its appearance is so early in the
spring. After scorch appears and you dig up the plant, leave it out
of the ground for a few days to see if there is anything salvagable
on any of the rhizomes. Cut the dead parts off and discard them.
Plant back or pot any growing points. I have saved very few
scorched plants.
