Some clumps have just completely died out from the excess rain. At last we
are having nice, clear, cool-warm weather. Most of the fatalaties were
Texas-bred iris. Happy to say that not one from the Suttons died, - and
these are year-old, same as the Texas clumps. LOW HO SILVER has been in
bloom for ten days. I BLESS is full of bud stalks. But no others have met
my eye as yet. A record summer for heat, - - then the 22" of rain from
DENNIS FLOYD and the "tropical depression" that followed. Fortunately we
do not get any run-off on our property, so no flooding, and no roads closed
here. Downtown Raleigh, 20 miles east, had flooding, however, so we were
lucky. Region 4 is to meet here in Raleigh-Durham Oct. 29 and 30. Lloyd
