Hi Louise,
There seems to be a group of us here that are moving house at present. I am
potting my irises into 8" to 12" pots, in a good quality, well drained,
potting soil, and they may have to remain in their pots for many months.
How long were you planning to keep the rhizomes out of the ground? If it is
only a few weeks there should be no problem, but if it is much longer, you
might be safer to pot them up.
I am planning on moving quite a few as bare rooted clumps, but will not lift
these until just before we move.

If you go to:

you will find the iris-talk archives, with a search machine. Search for
'Potted Iris' or 'Iris in Pots' and you will find several recent threads on
this topic.
