I somehow doubt that this is little more than a language translation, or
pronunciation problem. Here in Australia, the words sound virtually
identical.
This type of alteration of words is common enough within the English
language, without the problem of translation into other languages.
The one that currently irritates me the most is 'Olympic metals'. I know
they are made out of metal, but I would have thought these awards would be
called Medals in any English speaking country. Is this not so?
