In yesterday's paper: This notice: Lois "Grammy" Kuntz, of East
Wenatchee WA, passed away on Sept 9, 2000. She was born on Feb 28, 1908
(which makes her 92). She died in her home of 75 years and surrounded
by beloved granddaughters.
I don't know how well-known she was and I did not at first recognize
the name, but in the notice it mentioned her gardening and Iris interest
which alerted me. Lois Kuntz won the Dykes Medal in 1971 for her
introduction "Debby Rairdon, named for her oldest granddaughter,
"Deb-a-Deb Rairdon. I seem to remember that she was a rather unknown
who did only a little playing around with hybridizing, so it was rather
amazing that her creation came up with the Dykes. I'm not sure about
this, so if I've erred, I would appreciate a correction.
