No problem, Chris. The six that gave me legitimate rebloom this year are:
SUGAR BLUES
LILTING
CHAMPAGNE ELEGANCE
FAUX PAS (BB)
LOW HO SILVER (IB)
WHAT AGAIN (SDB)
All were planted into my garden in the summer of '00. I have added
approximately 90 cold-climate reblooming cvs in the last couple of years,
so I am anticipating even more rebloom over the next several years once
they have a chance to acclimate to this climate and get into a regular
bloom/rebloom cycle. Several of them are trying to give me fall bloom
this year after having neglected to bloom this spring. A few others
bloomed last fall soon after planting but haven't bloomed at all this
year. It's just killing me to see stalks coming up in so many clumps
that'll have no chance of maturing and blooming before winter hits.
This raises a question - how much frost can a stalk be expected to take
before it'll abort its bloom? Or does this vary widely from cv to cv? I
ask because SUGAR BLUES, which finally opened a bloom today, was
subjected to several consecutive nights of sub-freezing weather last week
(mid-20s) that I figured would kill it off. I left it deliberately
unprotected during those freezes to see if it really would rebloom up
here unassisted. It did. Also, I noticed a couple more stalks just
breaking through the fans of a couple more cvs today. Why are these
continuing to develop after those freezing temps? I'm confused.
Pleased, but confused.
