Donald, I've edited your reply (below) to Francelle so I can ask you a
question.
Your references to the seedlings behaving differently and the fact that
they are encased in shadecloth and insect barriers really reminds me of
my personal thoughts that the insects are spreading the rot from plant to
plant. I find that my most stressed plants are usually a lighter and more
yellowish green and seem to attract insects more than the darker and
stronger growers. Your comment about the same cultiver rotting no matter
where or even IF it was planted also makes me wonder what attracts the
insect and spreads the disease. Did you have any seedlings that were not
covered and how did they behave? One of these years....yeah right after I
get caught up with my weeding....I am going to use a colorant on some
plants vs a control plant area and see if the shade of green has anything
to do with it! Any thoughts?
